Our Story
Black Forest Montessori began with Mrs. Acsa Harper and more than twenty years of teaching young children.
Before opening her own school, Acsa spent years leading classrooms in child care providers. Hers was the classroom directors showed on every tour, the one families walked into and immediately pictured their child in. In 2021, she decided to create that same classroom on her own terms, and Black Forest Montessori opened its doors.
Today, Acsa brings her Montessori certification, her CDA credential, and her fluency in English, Spanish, and French to the classroom every day.
Her husband, Anthony, runs the school as Director, which keeps Acsa right where she does her best work: with the children.
Five years later, Black Forest Montessori has grown into a close community of Colorado Springs families, and we're getting ready for our next chapter: a new center in Northeast Colorado Springs that will bring the same classroom experience to even more children.
We believe an authentic Montessori approach gives children a grounded start in life. Independence, curiosity, and exploration are encouraged alongside grace, courtesy, and the everyday work of building real friendships with classmates of different ages.
About Our Colorado Springs Location
When you visit us at Black Forest Montessori, you will see what sets us apart within the first few minutes.
Our setting includes:
A genuinely home-based classroom on Glory Drive, kept to a capacity of twelve children, so ratios stay low and every child is known by name.
Low shelving, real materials, and child-sized furniture prepared daily by a Montessori-certified teacher, along with meals prepared onsite each day.
Daily Spanish immersion led by a fluent speaker, woven into songs, conversation, and everyday classroom routines rather than taught as a separate lesson.
Children also take part in a wide range of practical life and cultural activities. And because we're open year-round, outdoor exploration and learning carry on right through the summer months.
Support for Military Families
We're an approved Child Care Aware provider, helping eligible military families stationed at Peterson Space Force Base, Schriever Space Force Base, Fort Carson, and the U.S. Air Force Academy access fee assistance for their child's care.

Spanish Language Woven Into the Daily Environment
Montessori theory holds that young children move through a sensitive period for language, a window when sound, vocabulary, and grammar are absorbed with an ease that fades as children grow older. Introducing a second language during this window makes the most of it while it's wide open, and at Black Forest Montessori, Spanish is taught with that principle in mind.
Spanish isn’t scheduled as a separate subject or a set block of instruction. It runs through the ordinary business of the classroom: songs, vocabulary work, practical life routines, and everyday conversation, delivered by Mrs. Acsa, a fluent Spanish speaker who leads the classroom daily. Because our school remains small by design, each child builds a genuine, personal connection with her, which allows Spanish to feel familiar rather than foreign, closer to a second home language than a lesson to be tested on.
Parents usually notice the progress at home before they notice it anywhere else: a child naming an animal in Spanish, singing a song learned that week, or offering "gracias" and "por favor" without prompting. These moments reflect more than vocabulary acquired. They show a child learning, early and without pressure, that language itself is a means of connection, a foundation that extends well beyond Spanish and supports confidence in every area of communication.
